INFOGRAPHICS
Here are some of my infographics and 1-slide stories.
TRAPPIST-1 SYSTEM
(19 May 2020)
The TRAPPIST-1 System, located 39.6 light years away, consists of an ultra-cool red dwarf star slightly larger, but 84x more massive, than Jupiter, and 7 planets between 0.3 and 1.15 Earth masses, all orbiting their star much closer than Mercury orbits the Sun, with 3 to 4 in the system's "habitable zone".
The TRAPPIST-1 system is depicted here in the style of a mass transit map published by some obviously imaginary transit authority in the TRAPPIST-1 System. Maybe our first signal from an advanced alien civilization will be leaked advertising designed for their own system.
I produced this infographic in response to an art creation challenge posed by Beth Johnson at the SETI Institute for the new space-themed art group she created in May 2020 on the SETI Institute's Facebook page, the Art Imaginarium.
ARROKOTH vs LOS ANGELES
(29 Dec 2019)
The NASA New Horizons spacecraft's flyby of Kuiper Belt Object (KBO) 486958 Arrokoth, a.k.a. Ultima Thule, was one of the most exciting space exploration events of 2019. Here's a size comparison between Arrokoth and Los Angeles, CA. Arrokoth is about as long as Santa Catalina Island: ~35.5 km.
