Drawings: Cartoons
Here are some of my cartoons. I've been honoring a family tradition, started by my father, Aalon Aaron Lee, of producing cartoons of questionable taste and timing on the occasion of special world moments. The cartoons below are displayed in roughly reverse chronological order of creation. Click on any for a larger view.
THE DEATH STAR CAMPAIGN
(Pencil and Sharpie on paper, May 2020)
We are in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, as this is an election year, Trump-2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale tweeted "For nearly three years we have been building a juggernaut campaign (Death Star). It is firing on all cylinders. Data, Digital, TV, Political, Surrogates, Coalitions, etc. In a few days we start pressing FIRE for the first time."
I tried to picture what this might look like.
INTERSTELLAR OBJECT BORISOV BREAKS UP...
(Pencil and charcoal on paper, Apr 2020)
Borisov was the second interstellar interloper ever discovered. It had a coma and broke up after its closest approach to the Earth and the Sun. By then, we were in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Was Borisov really just a comet?...
YOU TOO? By Aalon Aaron Lee
(The China Mail, 15 Sep 1962)
In 1962, my father, Aalon Lee, published a cartoon showing President John F. Kennedy teasing President Chiang Kai-Shek of the Republic of China (Taiwan), when a Taiwanese U-2 was shot down by a mainland Chinese SA-2 missile. The caption has JFK saying "You Too?", in reference to the American U-2 flown by Gary Powers shot down over the Soviet Union two years earlier.
